MEI

ProStar's Intelligent Connectors enable automated data synchronization and coordination between business systems and between the individuals who are using those systems. With this, you get machine to machine communications, machine to individual communications, and individual to machine communications that can all be automated. ProStar's Intelligent Connectors combine an event processor, rules engine, and action manager that are active within the various platforms to which we are connected. This provides real time awareness of activity that is occurring in and between the platforms.

This awareness is in contrast to that of a standard connector, which can write to the connected platform or read from the connected platform but has no awareness or intelligence as to what is happening inside that platform in real time. Standard connector technology is functionally a read-write data pipe. Examples of this include Dell Boomi, Progress Data Direct, and Mulesoft.

Here's an example of Intelligent Connectors at work: An engineer changes the status of the part that he is designing from 'sandbox' to 'prototype'. Automatic, real-time awareness of the status change invokes a workflow that initiates a 'new part' procedure in another core business application.

Mobile Enterprise Integration enables enforcement and automation for tracking and measurement of business processes. The MEI technology stack creates a whole new set of capabilities for businesses. Every business has policies and procedures, which are supposed to be remembered and executed correctly but are often not enforced within the business systems. By using MEI process analysis, transparency, and efficiency all increase.

Here's a description of MEI usage:
Improved handling of sales pipeline. A field sales agent enters a new opportunity in Salesforce.com with a certain attribute - let's say it exceeds $10,000. There can be logic based on that attribute that will invoke a quote to close workflow. It can enter the quote automatically in the enterprise business system, such as QAD. Next, the coordination of the different participants proceeds in a workflow that is specifically designed to maximize the success rate in closing the new business opportunity.

And some other examples applying MEI:

  • Increased efficiencies for purchasing.
  • Requisition approval or purchase order approval.
  • Workflows such as new part entry or new customer entry.
  • Complex processes such as new product introduction.

MEI does not require the participants to be users of the core business application or employees of the company. Importantly, even customers can be participants in MEI workflows. Your business processes don't stop at your company doorstep. We have designed MEI processes so they can include both enterprise users and users outside the enterprise system who are part of the workflow process.

Compliance programs have requirements which can be enforced through MEI, and they also have a need for auditability. MEI creates a new category of data that has not existed previously - business event data - similar to financial transactions or inventory transactions that record detailed activities. With MEI, in the database you are now able to record business event activities as transactions.  These transactions support the compliance system's need for auditability; you are now always able to find the logs that the compliance program requires. MEI is also able to systematically enforce following of policies and procedures.

The MEI priority system lets the participants know what the most important thing for them to be working on is. Each person in the workflow can be confident that they are working on the right task if they are working on the top item on the priority list.

The important pieces of information people need are: 1) Their priorities list, and 2) The timing requirements for completing those priority tasks.

MEI gives the visibility on priorities and timing that is needed to be successful. If an individual sees there are too many things on their priority list to be completed in the time frame given, there is the opportunity to reassign tasks to other resources, and to build more capacity.

MEI makes delegation straightforward and transparent.  One of the really important things for executives and managers to be able to do is assign responsibilities for tasks that they have determined need to be done, assignments which may be ad hoc tasks done by ad hoc staff. With MEI, all of these ad hoc tasks can be delegated by executives and managers in a way that clearly communicates the responsibilities and details of the task. MEI communicates the deliverables, the processes to be used, the resources that are available, and also gives visibility on who has what tasks and when are they expected to be done.

TailorPro works with any version of Progress Software from v8 to OpenEdge, all QAD versions and user interfaces including SE, EE, ChUI, GUI, .Net UI, and Desktop.

Testing shows TailorPro places no noticeable load on the hardware hosting it. If you want to implement complex business logic, you will need to ensure your code is well tuned. No. The tool, the utility libraries and the application are designed so that even non-developers can make basic changes, and are geared to people with only a general knowledge of Progress. Yes. You get a layer of adaptive behaviors over your application, instead of having to customize your core application.

TailorPro was designed with one goal in mind, never to touch the production environment. This means that TailorPro won’t change the production database structure, the application code or environment. If you draw a circle around your production application, TailorPro sits outside that circle, executing your new code on demand. Since TailorPro is isolated from your production environment code and database, when these change with patches or are over-written with an upgrade your modifications remain intact.

Yes. Here are some of the technical reasons why:
• No messy intertwining of custom code with standard code.
• No concern that unused database fields you filled with critical information get populated by the application.
• No loss of modifications to data structures or functions during patches or upgrades.
• You know exactly which modifications exist and which circumstances they run under.
• No hidden but critical customizations buried in anonymous procedures that pop up the morning of go live.

CCI

CCI is designed to integrate QAD systems with Progress Software, to process secure online credit card payments for sales, shipping, and accounting.

To run CCI your company must have:

  1. Current QAD license
  2. Any QAD version running on
  • ANY of: Progress v8, v9, Progress Dynamics 2.0, OpenEdge Studio Packages, Progress WebClient, Progress Dynamics Version 2.1, OpenEdge 10, 10.1, 10.1b, 10.1c, 10.2A, 10.2B, 11.0, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3

QAD has a policy in the QAD Cloud environment (formerly known as QAD OnDemand) that no credit card information shall be stored on the QAD Cloud servers at any time, not even for a millisecond. Due to this requirement CCI is important to use, as it does the necessary integration of credit card payment processing with the card vault functionality provided by most authorization providers.

The process of the integration takes the original credit card data, encrypts it, and securely transmits it to the authorization providers' card vault, where it is securely stored. Then the card vault returns a token to CCI. CCI uses the token any time there is a need to communicate with the authorization provider about that customer's credit card. With CCI, you can meet the requirement for no storage of customer credit card data on the local QAD Cloud server, which is another reason why CCI is QAD's recommended solution for processing payment cards.

It sure is. There is both high value in the savings that are available ($20-30 per order), as well as the benefit in reduction of liability, by complying with PCI-DSS. Proper, secure handling of your customers' credit card data makes for good customer experience. Also, for our customers who process low numbers of credit card orders, we have a special discount that we apply for low usage.

Many dimensions of savings are provided by CCI, beginning with the efficiency of the credit card processing. With CCI the entry of the credit card information is integrated directly with the sales order entry process. The authorization happens in real time and all of the next steps are fully automated, leading to a savings of at least $25-$30 per credit card order.

For companies using manual processing of credit card data or use of an external terminal for the entry, the settlement, the invoicing, and the Accounts Receivable cash applications their processing may take as much as half an hour of time. If there are any errors or needs for exceptions, such as a re-authorization, then the whole process takes even longer.

Further savings come from reductions in fees by using Level 3 processing, which is available for most authorization providers and supported by CCI. Another savings comes from reduction in fees from errors and exceptions. For example, shipments against an expired authorization are precluded by CCI's automated updating of authorizations for any exception condition.

PCI-DSS stands for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, and all merchants are expected to comply with that standard. PCI-DSS is currently at version 2 and at the end of 2014 it will move to version 3. The data security standard establishes a set of criteria that assures customers' credit card data is handled and stored securely and appropriately.

Payment brands (such as Mastercard and Visa) may levy fines for non-compliance with PCI-DSS on the banks, at the range of $5000-$100,000 per month. The banks normally pass these costs downstream to the non-compliant merchants. The banks are also likely to terminate their relationship with the merchant, or increase transaction fees.

There are 12 elements to the payment card industry data security standard. Elements 3 and 4 are relevant to the storage, retrieval, and use of customers' credit card data with computer systems. ProStar's CCI is in full compliance with all of the elements 3 and 4 of the PCI-DSS.

Some of the functions that are automated by CCI are:

  • The authorization process itself.
  • The tracking of valid authorizations.
  • The tracking of authorizations that need to be renewed. Various reasons for renewal are of course possible. For example, expiration due to a delayed order, an increased order leading to need for a larger authorization, and a partial shipment leading to a need for reauthorization for the balance.
  • Reauthorization process.
  • The settlement process. Following the invoice post in QAD, CCI communicates with the authorization provider. CCI creates the settlement transaction for the transmission of the cash from the customer's account to the business' account.
  • When the settlement is confirmed the Accounts Receivable cash applications is also automated.

CCI includes both the single invoice payment and multi-invoice payment options. These are very helpful for the credit and collections department.

Here's an example. You may have a customer with past-due invoices who commits to paying for $10,000 in their next check run. The credit collections manager can then say, "Well, we know you have a company credit card so let's just take care of that $10,000 right now." Of course, the single invoice payment is self-explanatory. The multi-invoice payment allows for either:

1) Selection of a set of open invoices and payment for the total of that set, within the appropriate authorization amount or with a pre-authorized fixed amount.

2) With pre-authorization, you can select the invoices to be paid. If the total amount of their invoices is higher than the pre-authorization amount, the last invoice selected can be a partial payment.

LUCI

Licensed User Control & Information (LUCI) is a stand-alone module to effectively manage user logins and license compliance in a Progress environment, entirely through configuration.

License compliance is a complex, time consuming issue for most IT departments. In the best case, you invest the time and control licensing costs for the company. In the worst case, user and login management falls behind and there are expensive, surprise costs to regain compliance.

With the LUCI tool, compliance is possible with both concurrent users and named users.

If you’re managing users against a concurrent license count, you can:

  • Control the total logons allowed
  • Control the total ‘live user’ logons
  • Manage license counts including partial-tally sessions, e.g. bar code readers
  • Logoff idle sessions
  • Monitor user activity in databases
  • Keep a permanent, searchable record of user logons and logoffs
  • Control the number of concurrent logons

If you’re converting from concurrent licenses to named, it is critical to accurately purge long stale users so you aren’t forced to buy them licenses. Additionally you need to easily identify users logging into multiple databases and count them only once. The searchable records of user logons and logoffs, across multiple databases, regardless of UI used, allows you to both prepare for and manage named user licensing effectively.
