ProStar's Intelligent Connectors enable automated data synchronization and coordination between business systems and between the individuals who are using those systems. With this, you get machine to machine communications, machine to individual communications, and individual to machine communications that can all be automated. ProStar's Intelligent Connectors combine an event processor, rules engine, and action manager that are active within the various platforms to which we are connected. This provides real time awareness of activity that is occurring in and between the platforms.

This awareness is in contrast to that of a standard connector, which can write to the connected platform or read from the connected platform but has no awareness or intelligence as to what is happening inside that platform in real time. Standard connector technology is functionally a read-write data pipe. Examples of this include Dell Boomi, Progress Data Direct, and Mulesoft.

Here's an example of Intelligent Connectors at work: An engineer changes the status of the part that he is designing from 'sandbox' to 'prototype'. Automatic, real-time awareness of the status change invokes a workflow that initiates a 'new part' procedure in another core business application.

MEI is an integration platform as a service (IPaaS) and workflow engine. MEI enables real-time integration across disparate platforms (such as Oracle, SQL Server, Salesforce.com, OpenEdge applications such as QAD, and more) with our combination of Intelligent Connectors. Here's a description of MEI usage:
Improved handling of sales pipeline. A field sales agent enters a new opportunity in Salesforce.com with a certain attribute - let's say it exceeds $10,000. There can be logic based on that attribute that will invoke a quote to close workflow. It can enter the quote automatically in the enterprise business system, such as QAD. Next, the coordination of the different participants proceeds in a workflow that is specifically designed to maximize the success rate in closing the new business opportunity.

And some other examples applying MEI:

  • Increased efficiencies for purchasing.
  • Requisition approval or purchase order approval.
  • Workflows such as new part entry or new customer entry.
  • Complex processes such as new product introduction.

MEI does not require the participants to be users of the core business application or employees of the company. Importantly, even customers can be participants in MEI workflows. Your business processes don't stop at your company doorstep. We have designed MEI processes so they can include both enterprise users and users outside the enterprise system who are part of the workflow process.

Compliance programs have requirements which can be enforced through MEI, and they also have a need for auditability. MEI creates a new category of data that has not existed previously - business event data - similar to financial transactions or inventory transactions that record detailed activities. With MEI, in the database you are now able to record business event activities as transactions.  These transactions support the compliance system's need for auditability; you are now always able to find the logs that the compliance program requires. MEI is also able to systematically enforce following of policies and procedures.

The MEI priority system lets the participants know what the most important thing for them to be working on is. Each person in the workflow can be confident that they are working on the right task if they are working on the top item on the priority list.

The important pieces of information people need are: 1) Their priorities list, and 2) The timing requirements for completing those priority tasks.

MEI gives the visibility on priorities and timing that is needed to be successful. If an individual sees there are too many things on their priority list to be completed in the time frame given, there is the opportunity to reassign tasks to other resources, and to build more capacity.

MEI makes delegation straightforward and transparent.  One of the really important things for executives and managers to be able to do is assign responsibilities for tasks that they have determined need to be done, assignments which may be ad hoc tasks done by ad hoc staff. With MEI, all of these ad hoc tasks can be delegated by executives and managers in a way that clearly communicates the responsibilities and details of the task. MEI communicates the deliverables, the processes to be used, the resources that are available, and also gives visibility on who has what tasks and when are they expected to be done.
